The Muslim Jewish Leadership Council (MJLC) condemns in the strongest possible terms the abhorrent and senseless attack that took place today at the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation, just outside of Manchester. This vile act of terror, targeting a place of worship and peace, is not only an assault on the Jewish community but an affront to the values of decency, coexistence, and humanity that we all hold dear.

Our thoughts and heartfelt prayers are with the victims, their families, and all those affected by this horrific incident. We extend our deepest sympathies and unwavering support to the congregation and the wider Jewish community during this time of grief and uncertainty.

Such acts of violence are meant to sow fear and division. We must not, and will not, allow them to succeed. Now more than ever, we call on all communities—faith-based and secular, local and national—to stand together in defiance of hatred and in reaffirmation of our shared commitment to peace, tolerance, and unity.

Violent extremism, in all its forms and from all quarters, must be met with collective condemnation and resolute action. We urge the authorities to investigate this attack swiftly and thoroughly, and to ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.

Let this moment serve as a reminder: we are stronger together. The MJLC stands shoulder to shoulder with the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation and all those who reject hatred and violence. We agree wholeheartedly with our valued UK based members’ statements

Head of Fatwa at London Central Mosque Professor Dr Faid Mohammed Said:

I strongly condemn the criminal attack that took place today on a synagogue in Manchester, which resulted in the tragic loss of innocent lives. This heinous act stands in absolute contradiction to every religious, moral, and human value, and reflects a complete disregard for the sanctity of life a sanctity upheld by divine revelation and human law alike. Human blood, regardless of faith or identity, is inviolable. No belief, grievance, or ideology can ever justify the spilling of innocent blood. I express my profound sorrow for the loss of life and extend my heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims, to the Jewish community, and to all citizens of the United Kingdom. In this painful moment, we affirm our shared humanity and our rejection of all forms of violence, hatred, and extremism, from any source and under any pretext. I call for unity, mutual respect, the protection of all places of worship, and the preservation of the civil peace that binds the diverse communities of our society”

Imam Sheikh Mohammad Ismail SYP Force Chaplain, Emeritus Chaplain of The University of Sheffield:
